Finite Element Methods (FEM) is a mathematical technique to simulate, inter alia, stresses and strains, forces and deflections in a solid component or assembly according to the field of Solid Mechanics.  It is a means of solving the partial differential equations by discetising the domain into finite sub-regions or elements.

Engineering Sessions has bought Plassotech’s 3G.Author from MSC-Africa which is one such FEM package, to assist in it solving structural related problems.  It is a simple yet powerful program that has bi-directional compatibility with the CAD package.  Designs can be optimised easily according to a number of criteria and the search space can be viewed using a number of sliders.  The meshing is quick and the solver returns converged results promptly.
